"Women with higher BMIs are delaying, canceling or not getting their preventative health care more often that thinner women," Rebecca Puhl, deputy director of the Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity at the University of Connecticut in Hartford, told TODAY. "When people experience weight stigma, they sometimes internalize these experiences, blaming themselves for the stigma they face. And that happens particularly in women."
